Halle Warns the Help: Don't Speak to Me!

Money is no object to Halle Berry, but meaningless chatter, on the other hand, pisses her off.

TMZ has learned that an Orange County painting company has been called to spruce up cabinets in Halle Berry's Los Angeles home, which the Oscar winner has been remodeling for over a year. The company has been asked to merely stain the existing wood cabinets in the kitchen ... with a staggering $57,000 price tag!

The contract between the actress and all those doing work on her property has a few interesting clauses: First, any worker is prohibited to approach Berry while in the home or on the premises. Second, no one is allowed to speak to the A-list Miss B at any time. Finally, the only approved interaction is if Halle speaks to you, then you may answer Her Fineness.

When you're getting 57 large to stain kitchen cabinets, one keeps one's mouth shut.

286. I agree with #6. Remember, the men working there would love to talk to Halle and some of them might try to hit on her. If they are fans, they definitely want to talk to her. Strangers in your house and your a star. Watch-out for come-ons and sneaking around to see the rest of your house. Hoping to see your bedroom or you in the bedroom. I bet someone took a camera or maybe use their cell phone to take pictures of Halle. i don't think she's being mean, just tired of the "I'm a fan bit" Just do you work and leave me alone. You would be mad too, if you were famous for something and workers in your house wanted to, just get close to you, talk to you, expressing their admiration whenever they see you.. What would happen if a worker said i sneaked upstairs and saw Halle naked. As a nurse, I've had people in to clean my carpet and been asked to take their blood pressure. Ended up taking all their blood pressures(4). "Take mine too , please. No, I did not report them. I just don't tell people in my house working, I'm a nurse. Can you imagine if you were a stock broker, workers would be asking you for stock tips. Don't judge someone till you know all the facts.

287. How do we know this is even true? It is just gossip. Besides if I was paying someone that much money they should be WORKING not talking. I am a poor person, but if I had the money to pay someone for such a big job, I would expect that they work and shut their mouth.
It isn't her job to talk to them. She just has to pay them.
I don't know why some have to call her names. You don't even know her!
sick of gossip!!!

288. Good grief people. Get a life. The woman is a big celebrity. I can imagine how certain workers will be trying to engage her so they can brag to their friends. They are there to work, not socialize. At least with the clauses they know the rules up front. For the contractor who wouldn't take the job. That doesn't seem to make good buisness sense. I guess you won't work in Hollywood. These Clauses are probably common practice there.

289. I think there is one detail many people have missed, as I have once asked others to do before; don't believe everything you read. There are always facts to research.

Halle Berry has another, smaller, get-away home in Colodaro. If she truly didn't want the workers to speak to her, the best option she has is to hire a property manager to oversee the work being done on this home, while she made a temporary stay in her other home.

But it's ok, we're human. We make mistakes, just as we are able to forgive judgmental bigots. :)

290. I'VE HAD A PROBLEM WITH HALLE FOR SOME TIME - YES SHE IS GORGEOUS AND I'VE NEVER SEEN HER IN A DRESS THAT DIDN'T MAKE HER LOOK GREAT.

BUT - SHE'S A BIT OF A DITZ. I'VE HEARD THAT SHE IS BI-POLAR. ON THE OTHER HAND - SHE HAD A BI-RACIAL UPBRINGING AND SOME OF THAT SEEMS TO HAVE LEFT HER "FRAGILE" AND UNSURE OF "WHO SHE IS".

WHEN SHE DID WIN THE OSCAR FOR MONSTERS BALL - ALL THIS HOOPLA WAS MADE OVER - THE FIRST BLACK ACTRESS TO WIN THE OSCAR- FOR BEST ACTRESS . . . UH, NO. SHE'S NOT BLACK, NOT LIKE WHOOPI GOLDBERG IS BLACK, OR OPRAH IS BLACK.

HALLE HAS A WHITE MOTHER WHO RAISED HER - SHE BARELY SPOKE TO HER FATHER WHO WAS BLACK. HER MOTHER TOLD HER TO THINK OF HERSELF AS BLACK BECAUSE HER FEATURES ARE MORE BLACK ORIENTED.

SORRY - NOT 100% BLACK NOT THE FIRST BLACK ACTRESS TO WIN THE OSCAR - IF THERE WAS EVER A TOKEN OSCAR THIS WAS IT. SHOULD HAVE BEEN WHOOPI FOR COLOR PURPLE IN BEST ACTRESS LEAD.

BUT TO BE HONEST IT'S SPLITTING HAIRS - BEST ACTRESS VS. BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS, ETC. HATTIE MCDANIEL, 1939, GONE WITH THE WIND WON DESERVEDLY FOR ROLE - ON AND OFF THE STAGE. HATTIE WAS WAY AHEAD OF HER TIME - SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF FAIR AND DECENT HOUSING FOR ALL. SHE WAS A DIGNIFIED WOMAN OF CHARACTER, CHARM, GRACE AND SAVVINESS IN A DAY AND AGE IN HOLLYWOOD THAT WAS NOT ALWAYS EVEN HANDED WITH WOMEN'S ROLES, LET ALONE, BLACK WOMEN'S ROLES.

HALLE SHOULD HAVE 1/2 THE CHARACTER OF THE MANY FEMALE ROLE MODELS WHO PRECEDE HER - BLACK AND WHITE.

291. I have been remodling house for 20 years, 15 of which were in LA. And yes, I have sold to stars before. This is obviously blown out of context. Besides, who could blame her. She is both beautiful AND famous and I can see people on the work crews wanting to chat her up, flirt with her, ask her silly questions or just plain invade her privacy. She probably has a project manager, and contractor on the job, and they should be the ones to talk to her, not every electrian's helper, tile layer, painter or carpenter. This is the same protocol for rich, non-famous folk.

292. She ought to remember where she came from. She isn't an heiress, like Paris Hilton.

There is old saying. Be kind to people on the way up. You might meet them on the way down.

She should remember that, if she winds up doing guest appearances on sit-coms, because movie producers don't want to deal with her attitude.

293. Hey everyone......Halle has the right to not want to speak to anyone working in her home. I own my own business and work out of my home and my time is valuable and I don't have time to necessarily chat with the people doing work here. And turning down a 57k job would be foolish for any contractor out there simply because she doesn't want to be spoken to. I have worked in the Hollywood "biz" for many years behind the scenes and have seen first hand how people expect and demand stars time and attention. Let her private life be private and her time be spent how she wants to. Give her a break. She wasn't rudee...she just has set some important boundries...nothing wrong with that.

294. For starters I do not think Ms. Berry is doing anything wrong by telling people to not converse with her, that is her right after all. People who are famous live in a completely different world that all other average individuals. Their every move and word is placed under a microscope in an attempt to find something inappropriate about them. I really believe this would be what Ms. Berry is trying to avoid pretty much at any and all costs.
Second This to Ms. Berry ... Why didn't you take the time to refurbish your own kitchen cabinets. There is nothing more rewarding that to look at a project you did and with pride say "I did that isn't it beautiful."

295. This story is full of holes!!! Number one the writers of this lame article would never know the cost of that staining job because it would have been agreed upon between Ms. Berry and the owner of the painting firm. Those are the only two people that would know the cost of that job because the owner would have been required to sign a confidentially report. Meaning, he couldn't say a word about the job to anyone unless he wanted to be sued. Two, no business owner would tell their employees the cost of a job, that's none of the employees business. Three, after the stain was approved by Ms. Berry I can guarantee the rest of the job was handled by an assistant. The smell of the stain would have driven Ms. Berry out of her home for a few days. As a business owner I always instruct my employees to never talk to a client unless spoken to first, normal business practice. As for blogger number two, he's full of crap!!!! No business owner large or small would turn down a $57,000 job, NEVER! And 57 large is a very big job big shot!

296. I figure it can be uncomfortable for any well known person to have workers in their home. Some people get weird when they get close to a celebrity, because they think they "know" them. Perhaps she was just being proactive in heading off any issues. And then, all it takes is a few carefully chosen words in an article to turn a no big deal thing, into a big deal.

297. what a b-tch is all I can say......that is a crazy contract.....how else are the people supposed to ask her questions about the job or even to ask if it looks okay?

Posted at 3:59PM on Jan 23rd 2007 by Ebony Coe

298. who cares. it is probably a common part of a contract there. I agree they should be working and not trying to gock at her. i add they cant talk about what they saw there too. give the gal some privacy.

300. I would never treat my help that way, they are human beings and are trying to make a living. Just because someone does not have as much money you do you should never look down on them. Halle I'm sure you werent raise with a silver platter! You struggled too.
