Dan Rather -- Paris Hilton Root of All Media Evil

Dan Rather continued his blowhard tour today, blaming the "dumbing down" and "tarting up" of news -- as he has put it -- on Paris Hilton and the media's blanket coverage of the heiress' jail travails.

Talking to FOX News, Rather slammed the wall-to-wall Paris-in-the-slammer coverage, criticizing his ex-bosses at CBS News for running Hilton stories on the evening news. "There's no empirical evidence that by going with Paris Hilton that [the newscast] attracts a younger audience," said Rather.

Rather tried to deflect criticism of news coverage from his replacement, Katie Couric, to his ex-boss, CBS CEO Les Mooves -- and now, inevitably, to Paris. Kenneth, what's the frequency?

77. Ya know Dan, most of us who really appreciate news reporting can't stand you. Your an egotistical self-centered "bag of wind." The only true reprter ever to be is Walter. So just shut your face and fade away.

78. Dear Dan Rather:

Knock it off with the criticism. We don't miss your tight-a** style and made-up stories. You ain't Walter Cronkite, so don't try to act like him. There are plenty of ways
( Viagara, Cialis, Levitra,) to cure your ED which it sounds like you have, so stop hacking on the women. You had your chance with the mic and the bright lights. Give it up.

79. Dan Rather on Fox News? That's like the Fox in the chicken coop! He's preaching to the Pope! Fox is behind most of the points Rather is making. There are very few professional news reporters today and the papparazi have turned our media into a country of Jerry Springers. All sensational TRASH!

Of course Dan Rather is right.

Katie Couric.....she is now getting the respect she deserves!

80. TMZ - you should stick to what you do best - reporting on meaningless celebrity fluff, and try to refrain from embarrassing yourself by putting a negative spin on a non-story about a respected REAL journalist. Fox "News" is also taking the National Enquirer spin/fiction approach, and is among the worst offenders regarding the very thing Rather was criticizing. Rather was not so much expressing his opinion about the sorry state of TV journalism, but stating a well-known undeniable fact. If your staff cannot wrap your tiny minds around that, just leave it alone.

81. I think more people watch their news on cable stations than ABC, CBS, or NBC combined.

CNN, FOX, MSNBC.

I only watch the other channels to get local news to see what is happening here and find out how damn hot it will be in Vegas today.

82. Hmmm...I am beginning to wonder if the time I spend posting on this site is contributing to the 'dumbing down' effect that was reported on many years ago. This has been done deliberately; the difference is that some of us use this site for relaxation and some think it is a real news site and say things like: "Bush has killed 60,000 civilians, etc." Only 35% of high school students in the liberal city of Baltimore will graduate this year. We are getting dumber and dumber and if we didn't have foreign students come here and major in engineering, math and technical subjects, we probably couldn't put up a space ship or advance this country. I am now officially resigning and reading things that are educational. TMZ has been deleting my posts that they don't agree with anyway..

83. This looney liberal has finally went insane. He has a lot of nerve talking about dumbing down the media after he knew that document on bush was a fake and he still read it on the air.He is a looney lying leftwing nutcase

84. Dan Rather is just another lying looney leftwing nutcase. He proved that when he read that phoney document about bush on the air.

85. About time somebody told it like it is. Thanks Dan. Sounds like he's getting a chance to say the things he's been thinking for awhile now. The same top ten stories on every channel? The same stories universallyingonred by the mass media, or under-covered? "Junk food" news stories like Paris and her having to detox in the clink? The umpteenth retelling of Princess Di's death? Good grief! Cover the PNAC, cover the World Bank, cover something real...
